Infosys Co-founder Narayana Murthy in an interview said that Indians should work 60 hours a week for the next 2-3 years to fast-track economic revival.
“We should take a pledge that we will work ten hours a day, six days a week – as against 40 hours a week – for the next 2-3 years so that we can fast-track and grow the economy much faster. On the side of the government, they should appoint a committee of well-respected and accomplished people to advise them on how to remove hassles for these businesses, like during the economic reforms of 1991. If we did these two, by and large, we will come out of this much stronger,” Murthy said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the economy of the country and for the revival of the economy, it is necessary to open the factories and industries. Murthy said he will consider the factors on who is more vulnerable to the virus. Furthermore, he advised the companies to adopt proper preventive measures for their employees.
Narayana Murthy “We could operate three shifts in one or two shift companies to improve social distancing. We could use gowns, masks, gloves, goggles for low-risk employees to attend factories. I would have made an analysis and said, let the less vulnerable work with protective gear and let elderly people work from home or their own offices,” he said.
He also said it is very much important to improve the productivity standards to work from home. It is required to define the productivity standards for each designation and they should be very clear about their objectives.
He also commented on India’s testing capacity he said that India is unable to ramp its testing ability. It will take 37 years to test the entire population of India given that if one lakh tests are done daily. “Narayana Murthy” He added that there is no vaccine in sight or if it will work on Indian genes. So, Indians might learn to survive with coronavirus in the next 12-18 months. Thus, a new normal life may evolve where everyone will live with coronavirus.
