Inventor Sir James Dyson is reportedly wealthiest person in the UK for the first time, The Sunday Times Rich List say.
The Brexit-backing entrepreneur is known for his vacuum cleaners. However,more recently, hair products is his popularity. Now, he’s worth £16.2bn with an increase of £3.6bn on last year.
Commonly the coronavirus outbreak is being geld as the reason for a decline in the overall affluence of the United kingdom’s richest people.
Sir James The entrepreneur made his fortune with the invention of the bag-less vacuum cleaner. It went on sale in 1993. And soon he replaced Indian-born businessmen Sri and Gopi Hinduja at the summit.
A self-made man at the age of 72, grew up in Norfolk in the 1950s and studied art before his art college principal suggested he go into design.
Most Dyson products are designed in the UK but manufactured in Asia.
In March this year the placed an order for ten thousand ventilators to help with the coronavirus crisis, although Sir James later told employees these were no longer needed .
The Sunday Times reported that he spent £500million on a new type of electric car with a 600 mile range but that the project has now been scrapped. The Dyson car would have cost £150,000 just to break even.
The wealth of the top 1,000 richest people in Britain fell for the first time since the financial crash. It is approximately down by 3.7% overall.
The Hinduja brothers, co-chairmen of the India-based Hinduja Group, witnessed their wealth decline by £6bn in a year. At the same time, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who topped the Rich List in 2018, also saw his net worth drop the same amount.
